Irish superstition says that if you're looking for love, you should put a sprig of mistletoe or holly under your pillow when you go to bed on New Year's Eve. For those of us lucky in love or just done dealing with Tinder nightmares, we'd rather look for our new favorite haunt in 2019. So does that mean we should have slept with a pint of Guinness under our pillows? Luckily, that won't be necessary. Enter: The Playwright Irish Pub.

New Irish pub in Dallas Arts District does twist on fish and chips

Called The Playwright Irish Pub, it's going into the space most previously occupied by Proof + Pantry. It's from Alan Kearney, a native of Ireland who also runs The Crafty Irishman in downtown Dallas.The new pub will offer hundreds of whiskeys and scotches, plus 50 beers on tap, including a healthy Irish selection.

An Irish Pub Will Take Over Proof and Pantry's Former Arts District Home

A new Irish-themed beer-hall called The Playwright Irish Pub is coming to the One Arts Plaza space formerly occupied by beleaguered Proof + Pantry, which moved out in May.Playwright Pub will reportedly cater to the theatre crowd as much as the sports-loving crowd with live broadcasts of games along with live music on the bar's two patios, 50 different types of affordably priced beer, and hundreds of whiskeys and scotches on offer, like at the Crafty Irishman.

The Playwright Irish Pub Is Now Open

The Playwright is now open in the former Proof + Pantry (and Dali Wine Bar and The Commissary and The Greek) space in One Arts. This is the new joint from Alan Kearney, the Irishman who runs The Crafty Irishman on the other side of downtown.

Playwright Irish Pub brings Irish fare to the Arts District

Looking to chow down on some Irish fare? A new spot has you covered. Located at 1722 Routh St., Suite 102, in the Arts District, the new addition is called Playwright Irish Pub.Before or after a show, customers can stop in and order one of their many whiskies or 50 beers on tap and food from a full menu, which can be viewed here. There are traditional pub fare options, but with an Irish twist, such as the Dublin double burger with two patties, bacon, Irish cheddar cheese, and a fried egg; or the Celtic mac & cheese with three Irish cheeses, bangers and bacon topped with Guinness stout cheese. For entrees, look for the Shepherd's pie, bangers and mash (wild boar and cranberry sausage) and Irish stew.

Need a drink? New Irish pub now open in the Dallas Arts District

The Playwright is located in the Dallas Arts District, in One Arts Plaza, just a quick walk from the Winspear Opera House, Meyerson Symphony Center and the Wyly Theatre. Its bar is stocked with Irish whiskeys as well as Irish pub food like fish and chips and bangers and mash.
